Server metadata moves to the Portal: how to avoid ‘Missing server data’

Since 14 October, your server name, description, tags and images are managed in the Cfx Portal. Here’s what to check as a server owner.

On 14 October, Cfx.re announced that server metadata no longer comes from your local configuration, but from the Cfx Portal. That covers your server name, description, tags, server language and images: everything players see in the server list.

What’s changing?

  • You manage metadata centrally in the Cfx Portal instead of in your config files.
  • Cfx has already carried over existing data where it could (a backfill).
  • Empty fields? Then your server shows up in the list as Missing server data (must be configured in Portal).
  • You can set up to five unique tags, and players can search by them.

Checklist for server owners

  1. Log in to the Cfx Portal and open your server.
  2. Check that your name and description came across correctly.
  3. Pick five tags that really describe your server. Think like a player who’s searching.
  4. Set the right server language, or a non-English server gets lost among the English ones.
  5. Re-upload your images if they’re missing.
  6. Open the FiveM client, find your server and check the result.

Part of a wider trend

This update doesn’t stand alone. In February, server listing character limits changed (project name max. 40 characters, hostname max. 120, description up to 250), coloured titles disappeared and a Report button arrived. In May came the padlock for allowlisted servers, set through sv_appearAllowlisted and sv_allowlistInstructions.

The server list is getting tidier and more consistent step by step, and less and less dependent on what’s in your server.cfg.

Tip: with only five tags, every choice counts. A single generic tag says little. Combine genre, play style and audience instead, so players find you for what makes your server unique.
